An interesting case to make for a team that actually drafted well in the past decade or so is to figure out who the Chicago Bulls realistically missed on.
With the 2019 NBA Draft well behind us, the Chicago Bulls have officially shifted the focus to rounding out the preseason and Training Camp and now the first two games of the regular season. The Bulls opened up the regular season on the road on Oct. 23 in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets but responded strong with a win on the road over the Memphis Grizzlies to start off the weekend.
However, the Bulls do have one rookie that’s off to a very strong start through two games this season and throughout the preseason (which was a five-game slate). That rookie is the former North Carolina Tar Heels freshman sensation point guard Coby White. He was the seventh overall pick of the Bulls in the 2019 NBA Draft.
A strong start from White gives the Bulls fan base fond memories of draft picks that worked out well in year’s past. Tracing back to when the Bulls got pretty luck and landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft and landed former superstar point guard Derrick Rose, there was a lot to be happy about with how the front office picked.
Over the course of a little longer than the past decade, John Paxson and Gar Forman actually excelled in drafting. While free agency and trades were mostly letdowns for the Bulls in the past two decades, they did well in the NBA Draft. But is there anything the front office could’ve done clearly different that would change the course of where this team is at today?
Starting with the 2008 NBA Draft where the Chicago Bulls landed point guard Derrick Rose, what should this franchise have used their first round picks on in each year since?
