5. Trust Shaquille Harrison as a wing or perimeter defender
Since the Chicago Bulls weren’t really able to close out on anyone on the Hornets shooting from beyond the arc, they have to get better perimeter defense. There has to be more for the Bulls on the floor at once on the defensive end than just fourth-year point guard Kris Dunn locking down on the opposition.
Dunn played pretty well against the Hornets, but even he’ll have his off nights. But he could be backed by another defensive standout guard on this team with Shaquille Harrison. Last season, Harrison proved that he could hang at an NBA level. He could defend almost any guard, and a good amount of wings, that would square up against him.
Once Harrison returns from his hamstring injury, he’ll bring a much needed strong defensive presence deeper down the bench. Boylen loves Harrison’s style of play, and his defensive ability would be a very valuable addition it seems at the moment.
Harrison also brings more than enough length to the table to hang with a lot of wings in the NBA. He has a wingspan that stems beyond 6-foot-6 and stands at 6-foot-4 in height. He was no joke on this end of the floor last season, posting 1.6 defensive win shares and a 1.4 defensive box plus/minus.
