There’s a big challenge for the Chicago Bulls coaching staff to try and patch the spotty wing depth behind starting SF Otto Porter Jr.
It is going to be a dire situation for the Chicago Bulls wing depth is the former Washington Wizards small forward Otto Porter Jr. gets injured for any lengthy period of time this season. And the Bulls looked very thin and vulnerable on the wing on opening night in a pretty surprising road defeat at the Spectrum Center on Oct. 23 at the hands of the Charlotte Hornets.
A big reason why the Bulls looked so thin on the wing on both ends of the floor in the regular season opener is the absence of second-year small forward Chandler Hutchison. While Hutchison wasn’t especially impressive thus far in his less than one season worth of games played in a Bulls uniform, he is still a lengthy player that can serve a good purpose on both ends.
With all this in mind, where can head coach Jim Boylen and the Bulls staff turn from here?
There has to be an answer that does better on defense than what this team showed in the regular season opener. Porter Jr. wasn’t even enough for the Bulls when he was on the floor, despite coming out as a plus player on the night.
While there’s definitely no reason to panic for the coaching staff after this loss to the Hornets, they do have to figure it out soon. Should John Paxson and Gar Forman turn to free agency or look within to find a solution?
Here’s a look into the five best wing solutions for the Chicago Bulls in the midst of the injury to former Boise State Broncos small forward Chandler Hutchison and after the season opening loss to the Charlotte Hornets.
