2. A marquee trade is pulled off
GarPax did great work for the Chicago Bulls during the summer to upgrade this roster. But the rebuild is not even close to finished yet. The front office needs to keep building this roster to ensure a brighter future in the Windy City. With such a weak free agency class set for the 2020 offseason, turning to the trade market could be the right move.
Two players that might be frequently mentioned in trade talks this season from the Bulls roster are the fourth-year point guard Dunn and fourth-year shooting guard Denzel Valentine. Both Dunn and Valentine are in the final year of their rookie contracts. And both were lottery picks in the 2016 NBA Draft.
But neither Valentine nor Dunn has lived up to the hype in the Windy City thus far. At the moment, Valentine might command more trade value than Dunn. GarPax already tried their hand at shopping Dunn during the offseason and nothing came of it. But Valentine does at least bring a modern skill set to the table as a capable outside shooter.
In December, all the players the Bulls signed in free agency will be eligible to hit the trade market once again. And this seems like a season where the front office can make another marquee trade. This franchise needs it to take that logical next step toward contender status. Last season, the Bulls made a nice move at the deadline by landing small forward Otto Porter Jr. from the Wizards.
