The injury history surrounding the former Washington Huskies point guard, and the Philadelphia 76ers first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft Markelle Fultz, isn’t anything to be confident about. Fultz missed all of last season due to injury and what could only seem like something fatigue-like. The Sixers wound up trading him before season’s end to the Orlando Magic.
As Fultz tries to make his next home in Magic much better than his first in Philly, there’s a lot for him to work on before he comes even close to reaching his massive billing. Fultz can be a dynamic playmaker that completely changes the shape of games. That’s why the Sixers selected him first overall in a draft in the first place.
But the 21-year-old potential star point guard needs help to get to that point. Basketball Reference projects him out to be a floor general that averages 14.4 points per 36 minutes, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals. But the three-point shooting and offensive decision making will leave something to be desired out of the gate.
If the Magic decide that Fultz isn’t the way they want to go, how would the Chicago Bulls look as a potential landing spot?
It’s hard to imagine that John Paxson and Gar Forman would want to risk it if Fultz doesn’t work out well in Orlando. But if there’s still hope and he starts to show signs of improvement, it could be worth the big risk.
