The new ESPN+ docuseries called “NBA Rooks” features the first round draft pick of the Chicago Bulls this year, point guard Coby White.

The NBA season is right around the corner. The NBA preseason slate tips off on Oct. 4 with big time teams like the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers in action as early as the end of this week. However, a new series from the ESPN subscription app dropped a series that seems like a re-branding of a now three-year long documentary. There were players from the Chicago Bulls included in this series for the past two years.

The last two years for ESPN focusing on NBA rookie was called “Year One”.

But the focus is already turning for teams like the Bulls to what the younger core of players will bring to the table during the regular season. The Bulls have one of the rising young rosters in the Eastern Conference. Due to the lack of depth for good teams in the East this season, the Bulls could make a jump as large as going from 22 wins to making the playoffs as a seven or eight seed.

One of the focal points of this young roster for the Bulls heading into the regular season is the former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard and the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft Coby White. Before the preseason even tips off, White found himself amid a handful of episodes in a fun new ESPN+ documentary series “NBA Rooks”.

The NBA rookies featured in this docuseries beyond White includes New York Knicks forward RJ Barrett, New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, Atlanta Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter, and the Denver Nuggets seven-footer Bol Bol. White was the second-lowest draft selection of all the rookies in this docuseries. But Bol was well below him to the Nuggets in the second round of this year’s draft.

However, the series is four episodes in just ahead of the tip off of the preseason. The next episode could drop as soon as we are in the midst of the preseason slate. That would give the next exposure to White’s settling into the Windy City.

As a newer member of the Bulls, this could also give a good look into head coach Jim Boylen and fellow 2019 draft pick of this team, big man Daniel Gafford. There was a brief look into Coby in the Windy City in the fourth episode of the docuseries. But most of it thus far was him either settling in with the Bulls or preparing for the NBA Draft itself.

This is going to be the first big documentary that White finds himself in during his early NBA days. The spotlight will be continually growing on him in such a big market with a team like the Bulls but he seems to be keeping to his roots which could help him thrive in the long run.
