The 2020 NBA Draft will be interesting for potential lower lottery teams like the Chicago Bulls due to the depth in this class compared to last year.

There’s a long time before the official process of scouting begins for the Chicago Bulls ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft. The NBA Draft Combine arrives one month before the draft itself. Both are around nine months away which gives the Chicago Bulls front office ample time to get their draft strategy straightened out.

Who should the Bulls be scouting especially close early on? There is a good chance the Bulls improve significantly this season but still find themselves in the draft lottery for yet another year.

Moreover, the start of college basketball season is just over one month away and the preseason games will be up and running within the next 30 days. Quality basketball leagues overseas with lottery prospects playing are also underway within the next two weeks (i.e. RJ Hampton and LaMelo Ball in the NBL).

This budding 2020 NBA Draft class doesn’t have a clear top overall prospect yet. To be fair, former Duke star forward Zion Williamson wasn’t the solidified top overall 2019 draft pick until well into the college hoops non-conference slate. But this looks to be a top-to-bottom deeper draft class, especially among the guards, for the lottery. The separation between the No. 5 and the No. 14 picks might not be all that wide.

The cluster of talented prospects in this draft class will make it interesting to follow college hoops this season to see how the big boards develop. Loaded programs like Gonzaga and Duke last season made it difficult for newer teams to emerge with underrated NBA Draft prospects.

Could this also be the year we see a non-freshman from the college basketball ranks rise to possible top pick territory? If any, it could be this season that happens.

Here’s a look into who the Chicago Bulls should focus on as the top five best prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft class.
