3. Where do we stand with Kris Dunn
Throughout most of the summer, it seemed like the Chicago Bulls front office was trying hard to shop Dunn on the trade market. But outside of a few small rumors this offseason, it’s been all quiet on the Dunn trade front. The Bulls are quickly running out of time to piece together a trade package with him before the start of the 2019-20 regular season.
Dunn could be part of a clogged Bulls backcourt rotation that includes four other point/combo guards. He should still get playing time early in the regular season, but as White gets a bigger and bigger role during his rookie campaign the minutes for Dunn could steadily dwindle.
Most of the value Dunn brings to the table is on the defensive end of the floor. But with Harrison and Arcidiacono coming back, that value is already present elsewhere beside Dunn. We also haven’t seen the offensive skill set from Dunn blossom enough for him to make a positive impact on that end of the floor.
Since Dunn is entering the final year of his rookie contract, his play could be elevated and the Bulls might try and wait two or three months to trade him. Getting a piece more valuable down the road for Dunn and receiving his contributions off the bench could work well for the coaching staff.
