The expectation among Chicago Bulls fans for the former Duke Blue Devils center Wendell Carter Jr. to make a big sophomore leap is overwhelming entering Training Camp
and the preseason. Carter Jr. had his rookie season cut short by injuries. He only got to play in roughly half of last season for the Bulls.
However, the Bulls have a rejuvenated frontcourt and Carter Jr. landed in a good situation to learn under veteran center Robin Lopez last season. Lopez was putting up massive numbers by his usual considerations down the stretch as the Bulls starting center last season.
But there won’t be as much pressure as originally anticipated on the shoulders of Carter Jr during the 2019-20 regular season. The acquisitions of former Indiana Pacers forward Thaddeus Young and New York Knicks center Luke Kornet will alleviate a lot of the pressure that was to fall on Carter Jr.
Getting his stat line around 13-15 points per game and 9-10 rebounds, while staying efficient in the process, is a big looming task for Carter Jr. in his second NBA campaign. Last season, he averaged around 10 points per game and 7 boards while playing in well under 50 games as a rookie.
