Chicago Bulls: Otto Porter Jr. should be re-signed long term
The Blazers are a prime example of a team that has been searching for that wing to complement their two stars (Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum). The Otto Porter Jr. contract will like come somewhere between Bogdanovic’s $73 million contract and the $85 million contract that Harrison Barnes got. Bogdanovic is a better player than both Otto Porter Jr. and Harrison Barnes, but his age and physical limitations played against him.
The Free Agency pool next year will be a lot more shallow than in years past, but the number of teams with cap space will be limited. John Paxson was very high on Otto Porter Jr. when he spoke about him after the trade.
From NBCSports Chicago, John Paxson said “”We were able in our minds to make a deal where we added a player who fits our timeline, 25 years old, fits a position that we’ve been looking for and has versatility in terms of the way the game is going,” Paxson said. “For us, this was consistent with the direction we chose. We feel really good about it. We’re going to stay committed to the long term and what we’re trying to build with some sustainability. We feel Otto fits that mold.”
The best player in Bulls history once said that “I’ve failed over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed.” Well, the Bulls have failed a lot lately so; hopefully, some success is on the horizon, and that starts with the realization that Otto Porter Jr. needs to be on this roster for the foreseeable future. He doesn’t have the star upside of Zach LaVine or Lauri Markkanen, but his production and skills are just as important for the future of the Chicago Bulls.
