It is hard to separate the production that former Milwaukee Bucks shooting guard Michael Redd and Jimmy Buckets had while Jim Boylen was coaching them as an assistant. Boylen was on the coaching staff with Redd and the Bucks while he had two magical runs during part of the 2003-04 regular season and all of 2004-05.
Since Redd made such a big leap in 2003-04 and continued to do rise to stardom in 2004-05, Boylen could’ve have a positive impact on his development. Redd was an All-NBA honoree in 2003-04 as one of the best shooters and volume scorers in the NBA at the time.
Helping potentially further the career of Redd was a big move for Boylen since he was still early in his professional coaching tenure back in 2003-04. Redd looked like a budding star wing in the NBA at the time, but injuries ravaged his career down the road in the latter portion of the 2000’s.
The next move for Boylen after coaching up Redd with the Bucks was to go back to the college ranks with storied head coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans. He would take over the head coaching job with the Utah Utes, then in the Mountain West, before moving back to the NBA in 2011.
