One of the most polarizing players still remaining on the free agent market in the NBA this summer is the former Los Angeles Lakers rotational guard/wing Lance Stephenson. If GarPax is looking for an option that won’t cost a whole lot and could be a high-risk, high-reward player off the bench, Lance is a good way to go.
The union between Lance and LeBron James didn’t work out all that well with the Lakers last season. Stephenson wound up averaging 7.2 points per game, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. Although he did shoot much better from three-point range last season, around 37.5 percent, than he did over the course of the rest of his NBA career.
According to a report from Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype earlier in the offseason, multiple teams watched Lance as he worked out in Las Vegas last month including the Lakers and Pacers. But both of those would be return spots for Stephenson. If he wants a true change of scenery, the Chicago Bulls could be an interesting landing spot.
What could work well between Stephenson and the Bulls is a spark off the bench at the wing. We keep coming back to the point that the Bulls need more depth on the wing. Lance would be a cheap short-term option but could fill a void if injuries start to rise at the two and the three this coming season.
