Chicago Bulls Free Agency: 4 biggest 2019 offseason whiffs
At the beginning of the 2019-20 regular season, the former Trail Blazers sharpshooting guard Seth Curry will be 29-years-old. On the four-year contract he signed with the Dallas Mavericks this summer, he could see through his best years of production in the NBA. He finally found a good role for him in an NBA rotation with the Blazers last season.
With the Blazers last season, Curry shot 45 percent from three-point range and started to get more and more significant minutes under respected head coach Terry Stotts as the year moved along. Curry also proved he is a solid two-way guard off the bench last year since he posted a 113 offensive rating and 114 defensive rating.
The Mavericks did a solid job getting Curry on a four-year deal worth just $32 million. That is a bargain given how well Seth’s skill set translates to the modern NBA game. He is an ideal combo guard to have coming off the bench. Curry has around 8.7 three-point attempts per 100 possessions and hits on 3.9 of them.
The amount of money the Mavs got Curry for was manageable for the Bulls on the current cap sheet. Landing at just $8 million per year is something the Bulls should’ve tried to pursue Seth for. But landing with the Mavs is a good move in the journeyman NBA career of Seth since his best points per game average in an individual season came in Dallas three years ago.
