2018 acquisitions

Wendell Carter Jr.

In 2018, the Bulls drafted big man Wendell Carter Jr. The former Duke standout has both the talent and team-first attitude the organization needs to grow and win. This was a solid pick up for the Bulls with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft. Last season, Carter averaged 10.3 points, 7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. It is hoped that Carter will continue to impress, even as some around the league have snubbed him when judging where he ranks among the 2018 rookie draft class.

Grade: A

Chandler Hutchison

In the same draft, the Bulls acquired forward Chandler Hutchison with the No. 22 overall pick. This, I believe, was a strong move, but knowing that owner Jerry Reinsdorf and GarPax promised Hutchison’s agent that they would select him is not sitting well with me.

It’s typical behavior that we have come to expect from the Bulls’ front office staff, and it is unnecessary to put it shortly. The No. 22 pick has a ton of value, and while I like Hutchison for his athleticism, style of play and transition ability, I do not think he can shoot the ball. As such, the former Boise State star’s ceiling might not be viewed as highly as I would like for a first-round draft selection.
