Once again, getting a deal going this late after this cycle of free agency began for the Chicago Bulls and the rest of the NBA presents a host of hurdles. Here the Orlando Magic have to jump in to help the Pistons and the Bulls move a lot of players around. This is also a move that could benefit all sides.
Two teams that would be wanting to rebuild their rosters for the future at this point, in this imaginary world, would be freeing up cap space and adding more young pieces and future assets. For their trouble of having to give up Aaron Gordon, Markelle Fultz, and Mo Bamba, they get two draft picks and Porter Jr. and Carter Jr. in return.
The Bulls would be taking on a nice haul that includes Fultz, Bamba, and Blake Griffin. The Pistons then take on Gordon, Dunn, White, and the overpaid Cristiano Felicio. Each sides gets a pretty nice setup as the Magic will also get two future draft picks. One would be a future first round pick from the Pistons and the other would be a future second round pick from the Bulls.
A major risk for the Bulls here would be if two former top six overall NBA Draft picks don’t pan out in Fultz and Bamba. But Fultz would at least have a clear path to playing time with Dunn and White out of the picture. If he fits well with Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen, this could really pan out in the Windy City.
