This is an interesting trade framework between the Chicago Bulls and the Pistons since John Paxson and Gar Forman wouldn’t have to give up too much to land Blake Griffin. Small forward Otto Porter Jr., point guard Coby White, and a future first round does allow the Pistons to start stacking assets. But it also helps match the salary swap.
Since a little less than half the NBA it seems swapped teams in free agency this summer, making a trade like this one becomes more challenging. The Bulls aren’t as restricted as a lot of other potential teams that are good landing spots for Griffin are at the moment.
However, this deal stacks up to be very intriguing for the Bulls too. The need to add wing depth is helped by getting the Pistons 2019 first round pick and small forward Sekou Doumbouya and shooting guard Bruce Brown. Doumbouya only played in one Summer League game so it’s hard to say how he’ll shape up, but he certainly has a very high ceiling.
Meanwhile, Brown had one of the best showings in the Las Vegas Summer League and could be a breakout candidate among the younger rotational players in the Central Division. Yet, the salaries match here and the Bulls just have to figure out the frontcourt rotation. But this deal is worth it for landing a star like Blake.
