The meaning for the Chicago Bulls to snag a top star in free agency in 2021 would be huge for the team’s title contention in the East.

Planning for free agency doesn’t matter much for the next cycle, but 2021 seems to be the focus for the teams around the NBA that aren’t in contention entering the coming season. The Chicago Bulls are one team in that boat that should be looking toward the 2021 free agency cycle. Along with the Bulls should be the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves, among others.

Most of the teams that fall into the category that will be looking forward to the 2021 cycle of free agency are ones that are almost guaranteed to not be in NBA Title contention over the course of the next two seasons. Since it will be a noteworthy goal in and of itself for the Bulls to even make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference sometime in the next two seasons, this team firmly falls in that category.

The headlining free agents in 2021 might make that class even more prominent and polarizing than it was this summer. It seemed like half of the NBA turned over this offseason, so that is a bold statement to make. But 2021 is the next chance for big market teams that are currently lapsing to jump into contention immediately.

Chicago isn’t considered a premier free agency destination now, but it could be if John Paxson and Gar Forman keep actually drafting well and making smart personnel moves. Head coach Jim Boylen and his status at the time will also make a big difference as to how potential star 2021 agents will view landing with the Bulls.

Here’s a look into the five biggest early prize free agent targets for the Chicago Bulls come the 2021 offseason.
