2. Mistaken draft promise for Chandler Hutchison?

With the No. 22 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls elected to take a flier out on an athletic wing that was a product of the Boise State basketball program. Hutchison showed promise on both ends of the floor during his rookie season with the Bulls, but missed about half of the regular season with injury problems.

However, the promise that Bulls fans were looking for Hutchison to show in Summer League didn’t appear in any of the four games he played in. For this reason, it could be looking like the draft promise that GarPax gave him was a mistake. It is too early to call that, but the signs are looming.

Hutchison was fourth on the Bulls in points per game in Vegas, with 13.5. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks. The defensive ability that Hutchison has due to his length and athleticism does help him excel on that end of the floor. The inability to create anything with the ball in his hands on offense is where the trouble begins.

What told the story for Hutchison’s offensive game in Summer League was the 42.6 percent true shooting percentage he registered. If the Bulls are going to get efficient production from Hutchison in the second unit on the wing off the bench, then he’s going to have to create more offensive looks and have much better shot selection than he did in Vegas.
