With the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Mock Draft here, I’m going with the top 2019 recruit in the nation with Memphis Tigers commit and 7-foot-1 center James Wiseman. And while Wiseman would be a great pick for whoever lands in the top spot of the 2020 NBA Draft, he’s one of four or five legit candidates to get that right now.

The New York Knicks land the first overall pick here, and the frontcourt finally gets that piece that they can build around. Landing Wiseman is nothing in comparison right now to if the Knicks were able to win the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery and nab Duke’s Zion Williamson. But Wiseman could still turn into a star early in his career in the NBA.

Wiseman is set to join the former Orlando Magic superstar point guard Penny Hardaway, who is now the head coach for the Memphis basketball program. How would it translate for the Knicks to have a loaded frontcourt now between standout second-year center Mitchell Robinson and Wiseman?

As one of the most athletic bigs that will be participating in college hoops this coming season, Wiseman has pieces of his skill set that will translate well to the modern NBA. He is working on developing his jump shot, and should be able to keep progressing to increase his shooting range before he goes to the NBA.
