With the Charlotte Hornets on the board in this 2020 NBA Mock Draft at No. 13, they should just take a best player available approach. The Hornets might find themselves drowning in the standings in the East this coming season. There’s not bona fide star, and few players that even have that type of potential in a best case scenario.
The Hornets had a handful of confusing moves in the summer thus far including the sign-and-trade that saw them lose out on star point guard Kemba Walker and overpay Terry Rozier. Replacing Walker with Rozier doesn’t make a whole lot of sense given the almost $20 million the Hornets are going to pay him each year.
If the Hornets want to continue building a talented and young backcourt, the five-star Florida Gators shooting guard signee and Ranney School product Scottie Lewis fits well. Lewis could also fit the role of combo guard with the Hornets as he’ll get to feel out his game in the backcourt with a solid hoops program like Florida.
Filling out the roster with more young talent is just the goal at hand for this Michael Jordan-owned Hornets squad. The dumbfounding roster movements to start the offseason will have to be plugged in next year’s NBA Draft. Lewis is a great support piece that is a good two-way guard with excellent length that makes all the players around him better.
