The continuing search for the Minnesota Timberwolves to solve their point guard problem kept through the 2019 NBA Draft and this cycle of free agency. If that need still remains open beyond the 2019-20 season in Minnesota, then this 2020 NBA Mock Draft fit should be where the front office is looking next summer.
Former five-star point guard recruit and Arizona Wildcats signee Nico Mannion could be an interesting fit with the Timberwolves. Mannion does have good length and traditional traits that a standout point guard would need in the NBA. What he needs to work in his consistent ability to get volume three-pointers off.
The quickness and decision making in transition for Mannion also need work during his time in the PAC-12 at Arizona. The defensive ability isn’t quite there yet for Mannion either. If he could develop his game to become more of a two-way floor general, it would be ideal both for his NBA landing spot and his draft stock.
This summer, the Timberwolves struck out on nabbing a host of point guards in the NBA Draft and free agency including D’Angelo Russell, Coby White, and Darius Garland. They could also miss out on superstar Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook as he hits the trade block. Mannion will be the stop gap the Timberwolves are looking for.
