Once we get outside around the top six or eight picks in this 2020 NBA Mock Draft, deciding the order of where prospects in this class fall starts to become more and more cloudy. There is just so much depth in the middle portion of the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
Next up, I have the Dallas Mavericks taking a flier out on a five-star Kentucky Wildcats wing commit that should only continue improving with Kahlil Whitney. There’s a good chance that Whitney can immediately become the most capable and athletic forward threat for head coach John Calipari and this Kentucky offense next season.
The 2020 NBA Draft class wasn’t supposed to be as deep at wing as 2019 was projected to be. The 2019 NBA Draft class was just so disappointing with how a number of the wing prospects panned out in last season in college basketball. But the 6-foot-7 Roselle, NJ, native Whitney has one of the highest ceilings of any wing in this class.
The Dallas Mavericks could use an addition to the small forward depth and an explosive and athletic natural scorer like Whitney could play off Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis very well. Witnessing how he’s able to fix his turnovers problems that he had in high school ball will be a key part of his progression.
