The pros and cons from the first two Vegas Summer League games for the Chicago Bulls didn’t teach fans a whole lot about this young group yet.

The up and down nature of this young Chicago Bulls team that every fan should anticipate for the 2019-20 regular season started to show through in the first two Las Vegas Summer League games. Summer League started for the Bulls in July 5, as this team steamrolled the Los Angeles Lakers by the final score of 96-76. Naturally that led to high expectations for the Bulls in game two on July 7 on national television on ESPN, against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Since the Cavs were without all three of their 2019 first round draft picks, the Bulls should’ve continued the solid play from the Summer League 20-point debut win over the Lakers. Instead, the Bulls did not shoot well from the outside, couldn’t defend the lanes consistently, and were mostly sloppy in transition barring flashes from rookie point guard Coby White.

The final score in the July 7 loss to the Cavs  was 82-75. The Bulls did get contributions from a different set of players than they did against the Lakers. White and former Kentucky Wildcats combo guard Mychal Mulder were the spark plugs for the Bulls in this loss. Mulder had an exceptional first half shooting, and played well on both ends of the floor through and through. The outside shooting woes for White continued, but he really excelled in transition.

Up next for the Bulls in Summer League is a battle with the New Orleans Pelicans. That is the second to last game on the slate for Vegas Summer League.

Here’s a look at the three takeaways for the first two Summer League games for the Chicago Bulls.
