What Luke Kornet will do for the Chicago Bulls
With the looming absence of veteran center Robin Lopez in the frontcourt rotation for the Chicago Bulls, there are two players that will have to fill his shoes. RoLo is on his way to link up with his brother with the Milwaukee Bucks for next season. The two players that should replace him in the rotation are rookie big man Daniel Gafford and Kornet.
The beauty with what the Bulls can do with Gafford and Kornet comes with how different their skill sets truly are. They’re very different players even though both are underrated gets for the Bulls this offseason. Gafford is going to be a rim-runner and rim protector while Kornet will space the floor and get up more shots for the Bulls.
The proof is in the pudding for how the Bulls can succeed by using Kornet on the outside. If Boylen is ready to expand his offensive scheme and run faster in transition, Kornet could be used beautifully with catch-and-shoot three-pointers. He doesn’t create his own looks from the outside much. Of the 70 three-point makes that Kornet had last season, 69 were assisted.
When Kornet is on the floor with faster paced players that are more efficient, he also becomes more productive. For instance, the three-point percentage for Kornet with the Knicks last season dropped by 33.8 percent when he was on the floor with volume scorers like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Emmanuel Mudiay.
Get Kornet on the floor more with rotational pieces like Ryan Arcidiacono and Denzel Valentine and he could excel. A creator like Coby White could also open things up for Kornet this coming season.
