A potential gem find for the Chicago Bulls could surface next season after nabbing former New York Knicks center Luke Kornet to a two-year deal.

The former New York Knicks rotational center Luke Kornet was one of the three big additions that the Chicago Bulls had in the free agent market thus far. The exact dollar amount that the Bulls are going to give Kornet is yet to be decided. But the Bulls don’t have too much room to give him a larger than expected base salary.

Potentially the most underrated signing the Bulls made when it’s all said and done will be Kornet. Gauging his effectiveness with a team as bad as the Knicks were last season is just too difficult. Landing with the Bulls should at least give him more of a chance to succeed with a decent supporting cast surrounding him as he comes off the bench.

The parity and consistency that the Bulls will have in the rotation now with third-year big man Lauri Markkanen now alongside Kornet could be special. Markkanen and Kornet can both chuck up three-point attempts as seven-footers in bunches. Both can also shoot it from beyond the arc at a quality clip.

However, there is more to the fit between Kornet and Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen than the similarities between him and Markkanen.

The first reports that the Bulls were signing the former Knick Kornet came from Shams Charania of The Athletic. K.C Johnson of the Chicago Tribune also forwarded the message along on Twitter that the Bulls will either have to use a cap exception or move more roster pieces around.

Nonetheless, here’s a deeper dive into the numbers that Luke Kornet put up in his two years with the New York Knicks and how he’ll ultimately translate with the Chicago Bulls.
