In a trade where little-to-no draft picks are exchanged, the New York Knicks finally get the superstar they so desired. The problem for the Knicks is shifting around pieces that they overpaid in free agnecy due to the fact that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving landed with the crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets.
The role for the Chicago Bulls here is mainly taking on younger pieces that could continue to grow this roster so that the Knicks and Thunder can make the exchange for Russell Westbrook happen in the first place. The Bulls get a former lottery pick that disappointed thus far for the Knicks over to the Windy City, Frank Ntilikina, along with Kevin Knox and Ferguson from the Thunder.
Whether the Bulls want to stash Ntilikina and try to make him work in the long-term or send him elsewhere is completely up to them. Ntilikina still costs less than Dunn right now and Knox and Ferguson fill rotational needs and could be good long-term pieces. Knox showed a lot in his Summer League debut this year against the New Orleans Pelicans (before the earthquake ended the game early).
So that these three teams could actually make this deal happen, Chandler Hutchison lands with the Knicks to fill a roster spot and the Thunder take on Julius Randle and Reggie Bullock. The Knicks did overpay both Randle and Bullock, but each could be good starts to the Thunder blowing it all up and starting from scratch.
