A standout for the Arkansas Razorbacks and All-SEC honoree, center Daniel Gafford, is a nice fit with the Chicago Bulls. GarPax landing him after he slipped all the way to pick No. 38 in the second round of the NBA Draft is a huge get. He was projected in a lot of mocks to go as a late first round pick.
Getting to witness how Gafford works with the rest of the Bulls young rotation, and players who could wind up with the Windy City Bulls, is an important step to the overall usage of him during his rookie campaign. Gafford should definitely get regular minutes off the bench for Boylen, but how much is yet to be determined.
Signing the former New York Knicks center Luke Kornet and former Indiana Pacers veteran forward Thad Young could cut down the playing time that Gafford was to get this coming season. But he has an important role in this growing young core for the Bulls nonetheless.
Gafford does have the potential to become a solid role player for the Bulls in helping out the frontcourt with rim protection and hitting the offensive glass. There are a lot of signs that Gafford will be a traditional big man off the bench for the Bulls, like his total of zero three-point attempts in two years with Arkansas and career free-throw percentage below 60 percent.
