Drawing from a local base of talent is nothing new for John Paxson and Gar Forman. The former Loyola-Chicago 6-foot-4 shooting guard Marques Townes fits the bill of what you would expect for the Chicago Bulls to add in Summer League and hope for the best out of a tenure with the Windy City Bulls.

Townes was a solid veteran college hoops player for a long time. He started out his college basketball career way back ahead of the 2015-16 season with Fairleigh Dickinson before transferring to Loyola-Chicago after two seasons and sitting out one.

What Townes brings to the table for the Bulls is the potential to snag a solid two-way guard that is very efficient and well-rounded. Townes posted 2.2 offensive and 2.3 defensive win shares during his senior campaign with Loyola-Chicago. His assist rate (24.4 percent), defensive rebounding percentage (17.9), and box plus/minus (2.7) last season do bring a lot to the Bulls.

The problems with Townes exist with his age and how his skill set translates to the NBA. He shot below 35 percent from beyond the arc last season and turns the ball over more than he should. The length and athleticism that he brings does not make up for the faults in his game, which would be his undoing in the NBA.
