Core of the rotation

Pieces: Thaddeus Young (PF), Kris Dunn (PG), Denzel Valentine (SG), Chandler Hutchison (SF)

For the Chicago Bulls to take another step forward next season, the core of the bench needs to come through in a big way. The Bulls have a lot of pieces that could work into quality players off the bench. This all starts with the acquisition of the former Indiana Pacers power forward Thad Young.

GarPax accomplished the goals of adding both frontcourt depth with a modern skill set and bringing a veteran voice to the locker room with Young. He is a capable three-point shooter and is a good defender. Coming from the Pacers, Young knows how to succeed of late in the Central Division.

The development of Chandler Hutchison and Denzel Valentine could either see them become premier role players or quality starters. It seems like Hutchison still has a slight potential to become a starting caliber wing, but Valentine looks to have a high floor and a low ceiling if he’s able to stay healthy.

Valentine hasn’t really played consistently in the past two seasons. He’s a good spot-up shooter, but he doesn’t create much of his own offense. Both Valentine and to-be fourth-year point guard Kris Dunn look to be fitting very specific roles for Boylen next season.
