Sixth Man
Coby White
Boylen needs to watch who the sixth man develops into for the Chicago Bulls next season. Sixth man might be the most important spot for this team when it’s all said and done. Since the Bulls added so much depth in free agency and the NBA Draft this offseason without really losing much, the bench could be a lot better.
If White isn’t the starter for the Bulls at the outset of the offseason, he still needs to get a lot of playing time off the bench. Running White as the sixth man makes a lot of sense since that gives Boylen more of an edge in planning. Any team that runs more in transition or lacks in that area of defense could be a feast for White.
White plays fast and thrives when he can get open room and get his step back going from three-point range. He is a very situational player both in terms of his strengths and his direct path to development. But he is one of the most offensive gifted guards coming out of the 2019 NBA Draft class.
The development of White could begin by getting his confidence going in a role that plays to his benefit. If he can get his scoring going by excelling in the role that he knows best, that will be the path of least resistance to developing into a quality starter. If he plays better than Satoransky, he could work into the starting point guard spot.
