Shooting Guard

Starter: Zach LaVine

There’s not as much depth for Boylen and the Chicago Bulls at shooting guard as there is point guard. But the starter is more established. The starter for the Bulls at the two was brought over in that trade that sent “Jimmy Buckets” to the Timberwolves two years ago, rising star Zach LaVine.

As the likely best in-game dunker in the NBA now, LaVine brings a certain excitement factor to the Bulls starting five. He also really developed his game to become a true scoring threat that could be deserving of All-Star Game bids in the future. He is by far the most entertaining player on the roster for this Bulls team.

Last season, LaVine averaged 23.7 points per game, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. He did all that while registering a player efficiency rating of 18.7 and a 1.8 offensive box plus/minus. Progression was the name of the game throughout the 2018-19 campaign for LaVine.

There are downsides to LaVine’s game. He still has work to do developing his facilitating ability and outside shot. The qualm with him tends to be that he’s limited make the other scorers around him better. The 14.2 percent turnover rate is by no means a positive, but his assist rate dramatically improved last season.
