There’s just no way that the Chicago Bulls should overpay a team to take on the contract of Kris Dunn. Considering Dunn can still fill a valuable role of a capable mid-range shooter, lengthy point guard that can defend any position one through three, and just a good defender all-around, his $4.2 million isn’t all that bad.
But this would be a situational deal for the Los Angeles Clippers that the Bulls would have to jump on immediately if the opportunity presented itself. The trade package here for the Bulls and Clippers involves sending Dunn and a second round pick to the Clippers for a return of 2018 first round pick guard Jerome Robinson.
It looks as if both Dunn and Robinson could use a change of scenery. There is a good chance that Robinson is able to rebound with the Clippers with what could be an upgraded roster around him next season. But he might already be an afterthought if the Clippers would be able to add other guards this offseason and stack draft picks in the process.
There is still some value that the Bulls could find in Robinson. Mainly, he could join the 6-foot-6 shooting guard Denzel Valentine as a low-cost rotational piece at the position deeper down the bench. If it doesn’t work out with Robinson, then it wouldn’t cost the Bulls a whole lot here.
