This idea for a possible trade package for the Chicago Bulls involving Kris Dunn is rather simple at heart but would involve the complete buy-in of the Dallas Mavericks. That could be a challenging feat since Dunn seemed to have no real suitors the first time that the Bulls were shopping him around.
If the Bulls were able to get this trade package put through, landing a former Tar Heels small forward like Justin Jackson wouldn’t be the worst return ever. Jackson hasn’t found traction in the NBA yet, with the Mavericks or the Sacramento Kings. He was dealt to Dallas in the trade with the Kings involving small forward Harrison Barnes back in February.
But Jackson is also a player that does offer utility as a rotational wing that can spot up shoot and be a situational defender. He would find a role with the Bulls given head coach Jim Boylen doesn’t put him in negative situations. Landing Jackson should also come with the right expectations.
The Bulls would be able to work in a deeper wing rotation between 2018 first round pick Chandler Hutchison and Jackson behind the former Wizards small forward Otto Porter Jr. The Mavericks can also afford to take on a rotational point guard that would be very good in defending situations in the backcourt like Dunn.
