In this trade scenario, the Chicago Bulls fully take advantage of the roster flexibility that the New York Knicks have to offload two players that could otherwise be holding this team back at this point. While Kris Dunn wouldn’t necessarily hold this team back, adding a wing like Kevin Knox could continue to build this young core and add depth at a position that could use it.
The most advantageous part to this trade potentially for both sides is the Knicks getting a young point guard that could still have a high ceiling in Dunn and the Bulls getting rid of shooting guard Antonio Blakeney. The Knicks can afford to take on Blakeney if it involves adding draft picks and a player that could turn into something like Dunn.
If Dunn has a good season in this scenario, the Knicks could stack future assets at the deadline by moving him elsewhere. That would also allow them to reap the rewards of adding him on a contract year in the first place.
There’s little to no chance that the Knicks are able to contend for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference this coming season. What they can do is move in the right direction by making smaller moves that help to somewhat salvage what is going to wind up as one of the more disappointing free agent cycles in recent memory.
