The ultimate goal for the Chicago Bulls in free agency at this point is to not screw up anything else after a solid start thus far and to sure up the shooting guard and wing spots. Adding a young wing or shooting guard doesn’t make much sense now since it would likely cost the Bulls too much.
If the Bulls do want to add another veteran voice in the locker room at the two biggest remaining positions of need, then a solid option would be the former Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons shooting guard Wayne Ellington. As a piece that would be much more reliable than Valentine, Ellington could be a good fit.
Last season, the Suns bought out the contract of Ellington around the trade deadline. That led to the Pistons landing him before getting thoroughly dominated by the Bucks in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoff run. Around a career 37 percent shooter from three-point range that provides steady scoring off the bench would be very valuable for the Bulls.
Imagine the Bulls living in a world where Ellington gets a $6 million deal for one or two years and provides steady offense off the bench and just adds depth as insurance for other injury concerns. The last full contract deal Ellington had with the Suns came at a price tag of around $6 million, which could be realistic for the Bulls still depending on other contract offloading and the Satoransky contract.
