2. Los Angeles Lakers

Landing with another duo of stars is a great way to go for Jimmy Butler, no matter what happens in free agency around him. There’s not many better landing spots for him with that in mind than with LeBron James and Anthony Davis with the Lakers. He could become that third max contract player that gives the Lakers that highly sought after big-three.

LeBron and AD are already two very solid two-way players, and you could argue that both are top five players when healthy in the entire league. Butler is a bona fide top 20 player in the NBA, and one of the very best two-way wings. He fits the profile of exactly what the Lakers are looking for to round out this superstar trio.

Butler would have to take a backseat with the Lakers if he were to land with the Lakers, but it just seems like a great fit in every way possible. Since the Lakers probably won’t get a bigger name that “Jimmy Buckets” in free agency, there isn’t a much better way to spend the $32 million they have remaining in cap space on any single star player.

The only concern for the Lakers if Butler lands there is health. Both AD and LeBron missed timed last season due to various injury concerns, and Butler logged a lot of miles in the first half of his NBA career. That could be a ticking time bomb if he continues to log heavy minutes during the regular season.
