An overview

The point guard situation for the Chicago Bulls is much better entering the weekend that kicks off free agency this summer than it was entering the NBA Draft on June 20. The Bulls are now rolling with what looks like a three-man point guard rotation for this coming season. That rotation includes White, Kris Dunn, and Ryan Arcidiacono.

Earlier this week, the Bulls extended a qualifying offer to Arcidiacono, making him a restricted free agent this team should be looking to bring back. Dunn is also still hanging around despite various trade discussions ahead of the NBA Draft. He is entering a contract year, so we could see a more motivated Dunn with less pressure on his shoulders to move his career in the right direction.

And while the Bulls could still be in play for a big signing at point guard, it might not be worth it given the construction of the roster now. Malcolm Brogdon of the Milwaukee Bucks and D’Angelo Russell of the Brooklyn Nets are two often discussed big hits for the Bulls at the point in free agency this cycle.

However, even a mid-tier to quality-level starter at point guard might be a reach for the Bulls. It looks like a target like Ricky Rubio could end up gouging the Bulls salary-wise when it’s all said and done. As much of a positive influence that Rubio could be as a veteran voice in the locker room, specifically for the trio of young Bulls at point guard, weighing down the cap and causing a logjam in the rotation.
