Who were the best targets that the Chicago Bulls had to take a chance on as undrafted free agents after the 2019 NBA Draft?
We can’t hide it, this was a pretty successful draft night for the Chicago Bulls. The 2019 NBA Draft saw the Bulls nab the North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Coby White in the first round (No. 7) and the Arkansas Razorbacks steady big man Daniel Gafford (No. 38). That’s a solid haul, but a thin rotation for this team could still be partly filled by players who went undrafted in this class.
There were numerous players that went undrafted this year that were generally considered first round-caliber prospects in mock drafts ahead of June 20. That will always hold true, to some degree, depending on what happens during each and every college basketball regular season.
This year was an especially weird draft class. What was supposed to be a draft class highlighted by explosive wing talent wound up mostly disappointing. Declining draft stocks for top talents like Duke’s R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish, Indiana’s Romeo Langford, and North Carolina’s Nassir Little led to the rise up draft boards for prospects like White and Murray State’s Ja Morant.
Pretty much all along during the 2018-19 college hoops regular season, we knew that Duke’s Zion Williamson was the prize that tanking NBA teams would be chasing in he lottery. Zion did look like the far and away top prospect in this draft class. He landed with the New Orleans Pelicans with the top pick.
But, how did the Chicago Bulls do in scouting undrafted free agents to round out the rotation? Here’s a deeper look into five names that the Bulls whiffed on that signed with other NBA teams already after becoming undrafted free agents.
