Chicago Bulls: Why picking Sekou Doumbouya at 7 isn’t reaching
Re-working the 2019 NBA Draft strategy for head coach Jim Boylen and the Chicago Bulls could involve adding a potent wing like Sekou Doumbouya.
A seventh overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft can usually promise a special talent, but this is a thin class in 2019. The 2019 NBA Draft should be interesting for the Chicago Bulls just in terms of the pure number of options on the table come the night of June 20. Among the under-the-radar moves that the Bulls could make at seven, or a possible selection after trading back two or three spots, could be the France native Sekou Doumbouya.
This rising forward didn’t get much exposure prior to his draft workout process, but there are a lot of promising aspects of the film we’ve seen for the last two months. The Bulls also recently worked Doumbouya out, as did a host of other NBA teams including the Dallas Mavericks. A workout for Doumbouya at the Mavs practice facility dropped on social media.
With a thin draft class in store, there is always going to be speculation as to which top prospects could be potential risers in the lottery. This is where the Doumbouya conversation starts. He does appear to have a very high ceiling, but he is a very raw talent.
What plays into Doumboya’s advantage compared to other top international prospects in this draft class is the fact that he now has more exposure and tape just ahead of draft night.
Here’s a look into why promising French forward Sekou Doumbouya wouldn’t be a reach for the Chicago Bulls drafting seventh, and how a potential trade back could benefit them.
