About Matthews:

After Charles Matthews’ ACL injury while working out with the Celtics he likely won’t hear his name called on draft night, and if he does, it’ll be one of the last few selections in the second round.

Matthews will likely miss the entire 2019-20 season, and be ready to play by the summer of 2020.

Matthews originally signed with John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats, but after 1.3 points per game in 10.3 minutes as a freshman, Matthews transferred to Michigan. In two seasons with the Wolverines, he averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds both years under John Beilein.

Matthews worked out with the Bulls two weeks ago in a closed session with 11 other declared players, all of which are second round targets for Chicago. Matthews was the biggest name of his group.

The other players in Matthews workout session were: Clayton Cluster (Loyola), Javin DeLaurier (Duke), Quentin Grimes (Kansas), Amir Hinton (Shaw), Justin James (Wyoming), Dedric Lawson (Kansas), Derek Pardon (Northwestern), Myi Oni (Yale), Shamorie Ponds (St. John’s), Simi Shittu (Vanderbilty), and Silvio De Sousa (Kansas).

Matthews showed an NBA ready game this season and was effective offensively but his defense left something to be desired much like Poole’s. His wingspan reaches just over 6-foot-9 and standing over 6-foot-6 on the court provides good length for a shooting guard and average size at small forward.

The Chicago native posted a double-double in the first round of the NCAA tournament with 22 points and 10 rebounds versus 15 seed Montana and had strong performances against top competition such as North Carolina (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Villanova (19 points) this past season.
