The NBA hasn’t had a Division II player selected in the NBA Draft since 2005, but Amir Hinton and the Chicago Bulls can change that.

In 2005, the Utah Jazz selected Walsh University’s Robert Whaley No. 51 overall and now, Shaw University’s (NC) Amir Hinton appears to be the next player to break the Division II barrier after participating in the NBA’s G League Elite Camp and working out for several teams including the Chicago Bulls.

Hinton is a well-known commodity in Division II basketball for his scoring ability and being one of the best players in program history at Lock Haven University and Shaw.

Hinton is listed as a point guard, but can also play off the ball as the two-guard. He is one of three Division II players to remain declared after the draft deadline (Point Loma Nazarene’s Daulton Hommes and Texas-Permian Basin’s Jacob Ledoux) along with one Division III player ((Olivet’s Trevor Manuel) hoping to hear their names called on the night of June 20th.

One month prior to the draft, the Chicago Bulls hosted a pre-draft private workout Monday, May 20. Hinton along with 11 other players participated in pre-draft workouts in front of Chicago coaches and scouts.

Hinton is projected as a late-second round pick to priority free agent on most teams boards and has already met with the Bucks, Hawks, Kings, Mavericks, Nets, Pistons and Rockets.
