Taking two guards may seem a bit puzzling, however, Brooklyn is likely to go with a best player available strategy with their second first-round pick. Ty Jerome has good size as a combo guard and can help do a bit of everything for the Nets. Jerome’s scrappy defensive tendencies are always welcome. A gritty player goes to a gritty team here, as Jerome is sure to become a fan favorite.
With DeMarcus Cousins likely departing to seek a larger contract in free agency this summer, the Warriors will look to find a permeant solution at center. Naz Reid is a good fit for Golden State because he is a defensive and rebounding-minded player who can be effective without the basketball. An added bonus for the Warriors is his potential, as he is a former top high school recruit.
Admiral Schofield is another very Popovich-type pick. Schofield does not have a true position, but is scrappy enough to play inside with forwards and possesses the skill set necessary to play the guard position. It is unknown where Schofield will play in San Antonio, but Gregg Popovich will surely be able to utilize the do-it-all player to his maximum ability.
