Chicago Bulls: 5 free agent targets pending draft night decisions
Ricky Rubio, Utah Jazz – 12.7 points per game, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds (2018-19)
Ricky Rubio’s future will likely rely on the Utah Jazz’s chances at landing a younger and more athletic point guard to play opposite of rising star Donovan Mitchell. Rubio played well in the Jazz’s first-round matchup against the Houston Rockets averaging 15.4 points and 8.6 assists per game in the five-game series, which could have easily been a sweep.
The 28-year-old guard from Spain has been consistent his entire career averaging at least 10 points and 5 assists in 7-of-8 seasons in the league. However, Rubio’s best days are likely behind him. Rubio was top-10 in assists in four of his first five seasons but dropped to a career-low in 2017-18 with 5.3 per game and finished 18th this year with 6.1.
Rubio made $14.8 million with the Jazz this season and will likely be earning a somewhat similar salary based on what teams need a point guard with postseason experience. Bulls would likely look at lesser options first to save money for long-term pieces.
