An offer the Chicago Bulls can’t refuse

Better known as the Godfather offer, aptly named after the iconic Don Corleone line from the 1972 film.

Most hardcore Bulls fans were internally screaming for the second overall selection to go their way for the chance to draft Ja Morant. Instead, the Memphis Grizzlies found themselves in ownership of one of the most favourable assets in this year’s draft.

Now I know I’ve already mentioned Memphis moving a different point guard for the same selection heading their way from the Bulls, however, this involves a lot more elbow grease.

Memphis isn’t sniffing the playoffs for a long time. However, the Bulls have a pallet of assets that could help another ailing team answer some of their long-term problems. In Chicago, fans feel they’ve reached a new low, heading into the 22nd season since Michael Jordan lifted the team’s last NBA Championship trophy.

Morant would’ve been the perfect option for the Bulls’ at the top of the draft had the numbers fallen their way. Instead, they’d likely have to give up a fair grouping of assets to vault to the second slot in the draft.

If you want to give your fans a reason to believe, then GarPax, you need to make a move that says ‘we want to be legit’. Moving up for Morant, in my viewing of tape and understanding of basketball, says that we believe this guy’s a superstar and is going to bring home the trophy.

Package up this pick, some future draft spots, take a long hard look at your player assets and prepare to eat some bad contracts.

While I don’t see this as a particularly likely scenario, I think it would be the wisest move for the Bulls front office. Right now, these pieces don’t all fit together. Keep Markkanen in a Bulls jersey, but otherwise, I’m okay with all other assets being in play for the rights to Morant.

Until we know what this franchise has in store for the number seven selection, it’s going to be a very anxious off-season for Bulls fans.
