Where the Chicago Bulls go after the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery
This was a complete letdown for the Bulls after so much hype that this team would at least have a shot at landing a prospect like Vanderbilt Commodores freshman point guard Darius Garland or Duke freshman guard/forward R.J. Barrett. Now, it’s hard to imagine that the Bulls will even have a shot at either one of those highly touted draft prospects.
Yet, the Bulls did well in landing the former Duke big man Wendell Carter Jr. with pick No. 7 in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft. If John Paxson and Gar Forman do their homework, this could still be a successful draft. GarPax did draft well within the past decade when the Bulls picked in the lottery.
We’ll come back to the one takeaway that the Bulls, Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Cleveland Cavaliers should all have. It doesn’t seem like there’s much of a material or valid reason to tank with the way that the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery was restructured. The Knicks were the only one of those aforementioned four teams that wound up with a top three pick.
The Memphis Grizzlies landed with the No. 2 pick in this draft. It’s interesting that there could be so little interest in where Zion Williamson and Morant land now. Since Zion and Ja could end up with two very small market teams like the Pelicans and Grizzlies, a lot of the intrigue disappears right away.
