We can now turn the attention solely to the point guard spot for the Chicago Bulls in this 2019 NBA Draft class. Point guard is the main position of need for the Bulls, but this isn’t the deepest class we’ve ever had among floor generals. If the Bulls aren’t able to land Morant, the class drops off pretty quickly.
The concern with a player like star freshman point guard from the North Carolina Tar Heels Coby White is the quick rise and flaws that emerged along the way. There were big holes in White’s game considering he was a ball dominant guard for the Tar Heels last season. He shot under 36 percent from beyond the arc and 42.3 percent from the field.
If the Bulls got similar shooting numbers out of White in the NBA than he posted in his first year at the collegiate level with UNC, that’s not much better than the team is getting out of Kris Dunn right now. The Bulls might as well upgrade the depth in the rotation with another pick if White is going to provide similar offensive results to Dunn.
What we need to see from White in the NBA Combine is the elite athleticism that shined through at times for him last season in Chapel Hill. He does have good size for a point guard, at 6-foot-5, but also needs to put on weight since he currently sits around 190 pounds. If he added muscle since the end of the NCAA Tournament for the Tar Heels, that would give added value.
