As franchise legend Dwyane Wade heads for retirement, the Heat will only have two active guards on the roster: Goran Dragic and Dion Waiters. Unless Miami is expecting a career renaissance from one of the two veterans, it’s time to start investing in an upgrade for the future.
With Justise Winslow becoming a strong primary ball distributor, the Heat need a competent shooting guard to slot next to Josh Richardson and Bam Adebayo. Romeo Langford makes almost too much sense for the Heat to pass up on here at 13th overall.
Although Langford struggled mightily from behind the arc last season, his true shooting percentage still rated out as average. This indicates his transition play was so good it made up for his shooting woes. Miami likes to play big and fast-paced, which is exactly why they need to take Langford and help turn his pretty shooting form into actual buckets.
Moving forward, the Celtics already have their core set. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart will be able to shoulder the brunt of the workload. What Boston needs is strong complementary players that will help make the duo’s job easier.
That’s where PJ Washington comes in. In conference play, Washington shot for 44.7 from behind the arc while also pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game. Washington’s ability to crash the boards and be a spot up shooter will go a long way towards developing a chemistry with the young core.
Better yet, Washington’s 7-foot-3 wingspan rates out the same as Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Not only does Washington have a higher offensive rating than Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett, he also has extreme defensive potential. The Celtics could use an improvement at power forward and Washington would slot in as the perfect glue guy for Boston.
