Other coaching candidates that were out there

This was a pretty fertile crop of coaching candidates for teams like the Bulls to jump on at the beginning of the off-season for non-playoff teams. A few coaching candidates that the Bulls had the opportunity to pursue included former head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers Luke Walton and Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams.

However, even a coaching candidate like the former Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger would seemingly be a better option than Boylen. There were a lot of proven coaching candidates without a solid position at the moment that succeeded in worse circumstances than Boylen had this past regular season.

Frustration among the Bulls fan base has to lie with the fact that GarPax didn’t even try to conduct a coaching search yet again. This is how we ended up with Hoiberg up to this point, and the Bulls went without conducting a thorough coaching search with this Boylen extension yet again. You’d think GarPax wouldn’t try to make the same mistake twice.

We’ll see how this strategy plays out for the Bulls front office personnel as a coach that was voted among the most unpopular by players in the NBA now with him set to be around for another three years. That poll that showed that Boylen was the NBA’s most unpopular head coach was conducted by The Athletic earlier this year (paid content).
