In a world where the Chicago Bulls front office management didn’t make such drastic mistakes, Jim Boylen might not be the head coach for three more years.

Who would have guessed that the Chicago Bulls front office was set to make a good decision with the impending Jim Boylen coaching contract situation coming up for the summer? Most Bulls fans would agree with the opinions of the national media that extending Boylen and making him the official head coach for this franchise is a big mistake.

This news about Gar Forman and John Paxson signing the rumored three-year contract extension to officially make Boylen the head coach for the Bulls after firing Fred Hoiberg last season doesn’t surprise many. But, it is a reality check for an intensely passionate Bulls fan base that had to be hoping the front office would try to salvage some type of coaching search this off-season.

However, the Bulls are moving forward with Boylen as the head coach and the initial reactions from the extension weren’t great from the fans and NBA landscape in general. Bleacher Report released an opinion piece earlier in the week stating that the Bulls “extending Jim Boylen is a microcosm of their failures”.

The SB Nation Bulls fan site Blog A Bull wasn’t too happy about the contract extension given to Boylen either. Blog A Bull titled its post for the Boylen extension with “Seriously! As the head coach of the team!”.

Here’s a deeper look into a few reasons why the Chicago Bulls handing out a contract extension for three years to make Jim Boylen the permanent head coach was a big and consequential mistake.
