What this means for next season

If only GarPax could put a front office together and a coaching staff that finally facilitated positive change in the Windy City. If there is one thing the Chicago Bulls fan base has spot on heading into the summer, it’s questioning the confusing extension for Jim Boylen.

There’s not a single NBA team that would likely consider filling a head coaching opening with someone with the resume of Boylen. Teams out in the Western Conference like the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns jumped quickly to make coaching changes once the market opened up.

As long as the Bulls are able to make a certain level of progress under Boylen next season that shows that this team takes a legitimate step toward playoff and title contention, all will be fine. The expectation, though, is that the Bulls could regress from where they need to be in a few more seasons under Boylen’s direction.

The outcry from the fans and local and national media regarding this Boylen situation with GarPax in the Windy City is called for. It’s hard to figure out what direction this front office is moving in if Boylen does get the three-year contract extension. In general, this will be a pivotal off-season in this Bulls rebuild.
